These large single flowers in shades of bronze, mahogany and gold with a black centre make a good contrast for brighter flowers in the border. WHEN TO SOW February to April WHERE TO SOW Sow seed on the surface of good free-draining seed compost in pots or trays. Cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or a warm place at a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F) until after germination which usually takes 7-21 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination. WHAT TO DO NEXT Transplant seedlings when they are large enough to handle into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost has passed, 30cm (12") apart.
