Courgette seeds - Black Forest F1 A climbing variety, suitable for scrambling up a trellis or fence, where it will produce an abundance of dark green fruits. Tie the stems in regularly to help support the weight of the fruits. When HARVESTing please discard any bitter tasting fruits. We suggest carrying out a "tongue tip taste test", particularly when HARVESTing the first fruits from a new plant. Sow April to May Plant out May to June HARVEST July to October
WHERE TO SOW Sow seed on edge 1.5cm (1/2") deep to prevent rotting in pots or trays during April to May 2.5cm (1") apart under glass at 20°C (68°F) using good quality seed sowing compost. Sow outdoors mid-May to June direct into growing site 1.5cm (1/2") deep 2 to 3 seeds in each position 60cm (24") apart.
WHAT TO DO NEXT Greenhouse sowings should be gradually hardened off once they have developed the first pair of rough leaves and transplanted to growing site or containers in late-May to early-June 60cm (24") apart. Outdoor sowings should be thinned to one plant per station. As plants grow , tie into supports to help plants climb and support the weight of fruit.
HANDY TIP Regular picking produces a crop over many months . Pick fruits when young to maintain a long cropping period.
